About

Solar energy is obtained from the sun’s radiation and it can be converted to electricity or heat. Solar Energy is free of pollution and it does not emit green house gases.

Noor Abu Dhabi will provide power supply to around 90000 families of UAE. This plant is going to replace the existing conventional gas fired power plants. It has the capacity to reduce the carbon-di-oxide emission by one million tonne.

The UAE is transforming its energy mix and aiming to meet 44 per cent of its needs through solar energy by 2050.

In July 2020, Abu Dhabi announced the construction of yet another solar power plant planned to surpass the Noor Abu Dhabi project.

Benefits of using Solar Energy

  • Solar energy is not harmful for the environment. It does not emit green house gas and also does not pollute water.
  • It reduces the electricity bill as it reduces the dependence on the supplier of electricity. One can produce one’s own electricity.
  • Using solar systems boosts the economy and positively affects the local community.
  • Solar grids are less vulnerable to blackouts as there are many power plants that are largely spread.
  • Solar panels are highly efficient and they can be installed on roof too that causes least loss of energy as around 3-5% of energy is lost during transportation and distribution.
  • It is useful in those regions where any other source of electricity cannot be arranged because as long as sunshine is there, solar energy can be produced at that place.
