Every year June 5 is observed as the World Environment Day by the people of the world to raise alertness about the importance of nature and to inspire positive change towards the environment.

The theme of this year's World Environment Day is 'Reimagine. Recreate. Restore' as 2021 marks the beginning of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Pakistan is the global host for the day to emphasize the importance of ecosystem revival this year.

Ecosystem restoration means prohibiting, halting, and reversing this damage that is from exploiting nature to healing it. It also suggests for assisting in the recovery of ecosystems that have been degraded or destroyed, as well as preserving the ecosystems that are still undamaged. Restoration can occur in many ways, such as through actively planting or by removing pressures so that nature can recover on its own.
