More than 1.75 crore beneficiaries have availed the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) between financial year 2018 and 2020, as informed by the Centre on 4th Feb in a parliament session.

About

The purpose of PMMVY is to compensate the loss of wages of working women and ensure their proper rest and nutrition. It aims to improve the health of pregnant women and lactating mothers and reduce the impact of under-nutrition through cash incentives.

Under this benefit scheme a payment of Rs 5,932 crore was made to 1.75 crore eligible beneficiaries between financial year 2018 and 2020. The breakup of data of unique beneficiaries or those receiving installment was not available.

It is estimated that 51.70 lakh women per year will get benefitted from this scheme.

The scheme will benefit pregnant women and lactating mothers during the birth of the first surviving child. The benefit amount of the scheme will be sent directly to the beneficiary's bank account through DBT. An amount of Rs 6,000 is paid to the beneficiary in three installments. First installment is of Rs 1000 and other two are of Rs 2000 each.

This scheme is not applicable for low-grade pregnant women and lactating mothers. Women who are employed with the Central or State Government or any Public Sector Undertaking and those who are recipients of the same benefits under any other scheme or law would not be benefitted by/ covered under this scheme.
