About

The main purpose to set up this council was to advise the Government on actions needed to build a strong ecosystem for nourishing innovation and startups in the country.

This council will act as an inspiration for aspiring startup entrepreneurs in India. This is the first time in our nation’s history where such a powerful group of people from the private sector and the government have come together, so that they take their own policy decisions.

The Council was constituted by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in January to steer sustainable economic growth and give rise to large scale employment opportunities.

Apart from ex-officio members, the council has a number of non-official members, who are from various fields such as founders of successful startups, veterans who have grown and scaled companies in India, persons efficient of representing interest of investors into startups, persons capable of representing interests of incubators and accelerators, representatives of associations of stakeholders of startups and representatives of industry associations.

Mr. Piyush Goyal said, “We have witnessed tremendous efforts by stakeholders right from national to block levels towards the realization of our PM’s ‘Startup India’ vision,".

India has the capacity to become world’s largest and most innovative startup ecosystem. The successful entrepreneurs are invited to take initiative to share their knowledge, experience, ideas and mentor students and youth. Innovative ideas from rural areas and small towns are also required to be harnessed.
