About

  • The Rajdhani Express was stopped at Daltonganj railway station, while the goods trains were stranded on the Barkakana-Barwadih rail route of the East Central Railway (ECR)

Tana Bhagat Movement

  • Tana Bhagat Movement (1914-1919) was a tribal uprising of a section of the Tana Bhagats and Oraons under the leadership of Jatra Oraon occurring during the late colonial period in the Chhotanagpur region of Bihar, India.
  • The Tana Bhagats opposed the taxes imposed on them by the British and they staged a Satyagraha (civil disobedience movement) even before Gandhi's satyagraha movement.
  • They opposed the zamindars, the baniyas (moneylenders), the missionaries, the Muslims and the British state.
  • Tana Bhagats are followers of Mahatma Gandhi, and believes in Ahimsa (Non- violence).

Chotanagpur Tenancy Act (CNT)

  • Chotanagpur Tenancy Act enacted by the British in 1908 in response to the Birsa Movement.
  • It prohibits the transfer of tribal land to non-tribals and protects community ownership.

UNSC's 1267 Committee for Counterterrorism Sanctions

  • The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has thwarted Pakistan's attempt to politicize 1267 special procedure on terrorism by giving it a religious colour.
  • Pakistan had initiated a move to list two Indians - Angara Appaji and Gobinda Patnaik - as designated terror operatives under the UNSC's 1267 Committee for Counterterrorism Sanctions.
  • The UNSC led by the US, UK, France, Germany and Belgium decided to block Pakistan's move after Islamabad failed to produce evidence to back up its allegations.
  • Earlier this year names of two other Indians- Ajoy Mistry and Venu Madhav Dongara - proffered by Pakistan were also blocked.
  • The move by Pakistan was widely perceived as retaliation for India's success last year in getting Jaish-e-Mohammed founder Masood Azhar listed as a global terrorist by the 1267 committee, which focuses on the designation of terrorists linked to al-Qaeda, Taliban and their affiliates.

UNSC Committee 1267

  • In 1999, the UNSC Committee was established pursuant to Resolution 1267 (1999), which imposed a limited air embargo and asset freeze on the Taliban.
  • Over time, measures became a targeted asset freeze, travel ban and arms embargo against designated individuals and entities.
  • On 17th June 2011, after the adoption of resolution 1988 (2011), the Committee split into two.
  • The 1267 Committee was henceforth known as the Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee, mandated to oversee implementation of the measures against individuals and entities associated with Al-Qaida.
  • A separate Committee was established pursuant to resolution 1988 (2011) to oversee implementation of the measures against individuals and entities associated with the Taliban.
  • On 17th December 2015, the UNSC adopted resolution 2253 (2015) to expand the listing criteria to include individuals and entities supporting the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
  • The Committee currently comprises all 15 members of the Security Council and makes its decision by consensus. The current Chair of the Committee, for the period ending 31st December 2019, is Indonesia. The two Vice-Chairs for 2019 are the Russian Federation and Peru.

  • New nutraceuticals is significant in view of the Corona-19 pandemic. These products will help in boosting immunity of the people.
  • The new nutrient based products will help in improving immunity and are thus important during the present time when Corona pandemic has spread in the country.
  • Ministry also promoting use of generic medicines in India by various mediums like print, electronic & social media, organizing seminars involving social impact groups like doctors, pharmacists, consumers etc. spent around Rs 21 crore in last five years for this purpose.

GOVERNMENT EFFORTS

  • For inviting more applicants & increasing viability of stores, incentives are being provided which are almost doubled from Rs 2.50 lakh to 5.00 lakh. Government is also providing one time grant of Rs 2.00 lakh for store set-up to persons belonging to SC,ST, women & divyang category and to any applicant opening store in N-E States, aspirational districts & Himalayan states.

ASI Declares Site and Remains at Baghpat to be of National Importance

Why in NEWS?

  • The archaeological site and remains at Sadikpur Sinauli in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district where evidence of the existence of a warrior class around 2,000 BCE was discovered in 2018 have been declared to be of “national importance” by the Archaeological Survey of India.

About

  • The ASI’s notification came under provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958.
  • The notification comes two years after the ASI unearthed remains of chariots, shields, swords and other items indicating the presence of a warrior class at the site that is 68 km from Delhi.
  • ASI after the excavation, three chariots, legged coffins, shields, swords and helmets were among the objects found at the site. ASI termed the site the “largest necropolis of the late Harappan period datable to around early part of second millennium BCE”
  • An ASI official said the objects, which date back 3,700 to 4,000 years, have been kept at the ASI Institute of Archaeology currently.

ANCIENT MONUMENTS AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES AND REMAINS ACT

  • The Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act (or AMASR Act) is an act of parliament of the government of India that provides for the preservation of ancient and historical monuments and archaeological sites and remains of national importance, for the regulation of archaeological excavations and for the protection of sculptures, carvings and other like objects. It was passed in 1958.
  • The rules stipulate that area in the vicinity of the monument, within 100 metres is prohibited area. The area within 200 meters of the monument is regulated category. Any repair or modifications of buildings in this area requires prior permission.
