Why in News?

  • Recently, the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy revealed in Rajya Sabha that about 25% of sanctioned solar power projects have been commissioned.

Key Highlights

  • Under the ‘Scheme for Development of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects’
    • 57 solar parks of total capacity 39,285 MW were announced.
    • Although installed capacity stands at 10,027 MW (~25%) only.
    • As of October 2022, 61 GW of solar power capacity is installed.
  • Break up of other renewable energy segments (Installed, Nov-2021)-
    • Wind Power : 40.03 GW
    • Large Hydro: 46.51 GW
    • Bio-Power: 10.62 GW
    • Nuclear Power: 6.78 GW
