Info-paedia : ‘Adopt a Heritage’ or ‘Monument Mitra’ Scheme
Context:
Union Minister of Culture recently said that the ministry is
likely to launch a revamped ‘Adopt a Heritage’ or ‘Monument Mitra’
scheme.
About the Scheme:
The ‘Adopt a Heritage : Apni Dharohar, Apni Pehchaan’ scheme is
an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the
Ministry of Culture and the Archaeological Survey of India.
It was launched in September 2017 on World Tourism Day by
the Hon'ble President of India.
Under it, the government invites entities, including public sector
companies, private sector firms as well as individuals, to develop
selected monuments and heritage and tourist sites across India.
Objectives of the Scheme
Development of basic tourism developing facilities and infrastructure
in and amenities at historic sites, monuments, natural sites, and tourist
attractions.
Promote the cultural and heritage significance of the country and
create awareness about them.
Primary focus:
The project primarily focuses on providing basic amenities that
include cleanliness, public convenience, drinking water, ease of access for
tourists, signage etc. and advanced amenities like TFC, Souvenir
shop, Cafeteria etc.
Monument Mitra:
The public, private sector companies and individuals will develop
tourist amenities at heritage sites. They would become ‘Monument Mitra’
and adopt the sites essentially under their Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) activity.
